I hope I added some insight for your story aired Sunday evening.

Make your Christmas time Hawaii car reservations way in advance!

Its always amazing me, hundreds of people do not make car reservations in advance for the Christmas holidays in Hawaii. At the moment I'm writing this, we are about the only agency left with truly discounted rates for most dates on all islands. But, in just a few days, maybe a little over a week, we will receive our final closeout notices of the year stating all 8 agencies we work with will be sold out on all islands. Soon the phone lines will be burning up, all we will have is bad news for the already depressed masses, frantically calling everywhere for anything, at any rate. We receive in the neighborhood of 200 calls a day starting around the 15th. With no vehicles to be had anywhere. If your one of those folks with little or no options, we have something for you. We now broadcast real time updates regarding every "cancellation" & "no show" we come across.
For this opportunity, you must follow us on Twitter.
Every year we find sold out dates become available due to cancellations & people simply not showing up for their rentals. We monitor 8 major car rental agencies in real time and now list these openings live on our Twitter feed & Facebook page. This is our third year broadcasting on Twitter, we'll try to find a vehicle for you, like we have for many others.

Rental Car Fee Increase in Hawaii

Rental Car Fee Increase in Hawaii.

Effective 07/01

House Bill 1039 has passed legislation. This bill Increases the rental motor vehicle surcharge tax to $7.50 per day from the current $3.00 per day, regardless of where vehicles are rented..
This in an attempt to help balance the state's projected $1.3 billion projected two-year budget deficit and would raise $61 million, reports the Associated Press.

How will this hike effect the rental companies?
From my experience with recent fee hikes, people are now renting
for shorter durations. Some people are foregoing a rental all together.

Is this helping Hawaii's economy in the long run?

It's less people, spending less time on our streets and in our stores.
That doesn't have a good ring to it, to my ears!

Customer Facility Charge in Hawaii

As we reported back in January 2010, the Customer Facility Charge in Hawaii will be raised. We just we received word the fees will be charged starting on 09/01/10

The 2010 Hawaii State Legislature enacted a bill (SB2461/ HB2370) which raises the rental motor vehicle customer facility charge (CFC) from $1/day to $4.50/day, effective September 1, 2010. This bill appropriates special funds for airport rental car facility construction/improvements statewide. The State Department of Transportation assesses and collects the entire fee from the rental car companies with facilities at the state airports.

Hawaii Car Rental Facility Charge to be raised

This week lawmakers approved a bill increasing the "facility charge" customers have to pay on Hawaii car rentals from the current $1 a day to $4.50 a day. This is a 400 percent facility fee hike, monies are earmarked for a new car rental facility for Honolulu Airport as well as upgrades to the Kahului Airport facility.

The fee hike could raise up to $500 million for needed improvements.

Car rental companies in Hawaii must pay the state $30 million a year in airport concession fees and have received little to improve the out-of-date and deteriorating car rental locations at state airports. The facility fee increase is expected to start Sept. 1.

Honolulu Airport will be the home of a new facility

New news....

Honolulu Airport will be the home of a new facility housing several major car rental agencies. This is due in part to the out pouring of complaints over the years about the inconvenience of renting at this Airport location..Are you sitting down (I imagine you are) the new fee they will be tacking on will be a proposed $5 daily one. (ouch!) This is still a couple of years down the line, so put it on the back burner for now.

For us...
January, (our high season) came in blazing, right on the heels of higher rates across the board in the Hawaii car rental market.

We want to thank the hundreds of loyal long term repeat clients for continuing to trust us to find the lowest rates for you. Our wholesale contracts are still holding strong and we are still beating the competition regularly. We found some very usually low rates around $90 weekly with 2 of our agencies, don't get too excited as this is for Honolulu airport only in January and February.

If you have been shopping for rates you cant help but notice the higher rates from the major car rental agencies websites, plus calling providing your AARP, Costco discount codes don't help much when the base rate is that high. This is where our contracted rates really stand out as they are much cheaper in most cases.

We just partnered up with Tom Barefoot tours they offer a huge selection of tours and activities on all islands and we started selling and looking for distibutors (this sells itself after you try it) for MaxGXL, the ONLY product we endorse on our website. Its a natural way to regain energy and vibrance in your life. It makes a difference in thousands of people's lifes, including mine, I take it everyday and love it.

Coming soon......
Alamo/Activity car packages. You guys have been asking about this for years. I am currently collaborating with the powers that be to make it happen, stay tuned later in 2010.
